The following June 22, 2007, excerpted e-mail is from Dr. Robert K. Upchurch, professor of English at University of North Texas and author of AElfric's Lives of the Virgin Spouses (University of Exeter Press, 2007).
Dear Dr. Butcher,
I am writing to let you know how grateful I am for your God of Mercy. What a boon that you have made available to scholars and students such fine translations and such a large, important portion of Aelfric's work. It was Simon Keynes who first sang the praises of your book to me when I was attending an NEH Seminar in Cambridge last summer, and how happy I am to own a copy of it for myself and to have it on the shelves of our library as well. Thank you.
I have spent much time with your book as I have been working on an article about Aelfric's Lenten homilies. . . .
Again, congratulations and thank you for God of Mercy.
All good wishes,
Robert K. Upchurch
